Natyataara Dance Company is a Chennai-based dance company founded with the vision of creating a space where dance is taught with both artistic depth and contemporary relevance. The company brings together training, performance, choreography and creative exploration under one roof. From regular classes and workshops to large-scale productions and special events, Natyataara aims to make dance a meaningful part of a student’s journey — building technique, musicality, confidence, expression and an appreciation for the art. Natyataara has grown into a community of students, teachers, performers and collaborators, with a strong focus on learning, performance opportunities and creating memorable experiences through dance.

Ishwarya Balabharthy & Her Achievements

Ishwarya Balabharthy, fondly known as IB, is a dancer, choreographer, educator and the Founder & Artistic Director of Natyataara Dance Company.

With 30 years of experience in dancing and performing and a Master’s degree in Bharathanatyam, IB has dedicated more than a decade to teaching dance to students across generations — from children as young as 4 to adults up to 75 years of age. At Natyataara, she currently trains around 300 students, while also conducting workshops for dancers and enthusiasts from outside the Natyataara community who wish to learn her choreography and creative movement vocabulary.

Her work has been recognised with the Shuba Nrithya Ratnam award, presented by Mahakavi Bharathiyar’s grandson in 2026, and the Kollywood Dance Don Award in 2023. IB is also a Certified Dance Movement Therapist and is certified in Nattuvangam, bringing together traditional dance knowledge, performance experience and an understanding of movement in a distinctive teaching approach.

Our dance teacher Ishu ka is exceptional. She is not just a good teacher, but a great mentor who teaches even the most minute details with immense patience and clarity. Her teaching method is very beginner-friendly,she makes sure no one feels left behind and explains every movement step-by-step until we get it right.
